The painting continues...

Emily is on a roll! No pun intended. Since the kitchen turned out so well, Emily decided to paint the dining room, too. Jeremy was a little bummed, since he likes the "rustic cabin" look from before, but the room was so dark all of the time that we wanted to brighten it up a bit. Here are some before pictures (in the middle of the day, with all the lights on, and a flash...)

BEFORE

AFTER
(6 cans of paint and two days later...)

Okay, so it turned out a bit "minty" for our tastes...it was the hardest room I have ever painted. I need a painting sabbatical before I can tackle this room again. When we replace the carpet next year I'll repaint it a less minty green, but for now it sure looks a lot better than it did before!
Oh, and all of those spots you see on the carpet - no, we didn't forget to vacuum. Emily had an accident. Actually, TWO accidents and knocked a can of paint over not once, but twice. Sonofa...

And here is Evan helping Mommy clean up. What a good little boy. (C'mon, you all sweep your house when you're naked, right?)

Majority Rules!

Yellow it is! Well, more of a buttermilk, actually, but still yellow. Too yellow, according to Jeremy, who HATES all things yellow... I'm in trouble.

We had actually decided on a nice light, sage-y green the night before, but when my Mom came over the next morning to help me paint (thanks, Mom!) she brought some paint samples with. After much deliberation we decided to go with "corn silk." (Which is actually the same color as her living room) Mind you, Jeremy was still in bed at this point, so technically he couldn't put up a fight...

When he woke up - Viola! Yellow. Er, um, I mean, "buttermilk." Try as I might, I can't seem to convince him that it's "not really yellow." I'm sure he'll get over it...eventually.

Its hard to tell the actual color in these photographs because of the lighting. The below pictures does it better justice.

Life's a Beach...

On Sunday we went out for a ride on the Eckhoff's boat. (Thanks, you guys! We had a blast!) Here's a photo of Evan modeling his new life jacket just before we set off. He loved the wind in his face and stuck his tongue out the entire ride to the beach. What a nut. He was a thirsty nut after that...
"Are you coming to take my bucket of sand toys? I don't think so." It looks like Peyton is ready to throw down! (He was actually a very nice boy and did a great job of sharing.)

Getting used to the water...which took all of .4 seconds.
Weee, Daddy!
Splish, splash!

Mini Donuts!!! I mean, a small version of Jonas - Evan knew just what to do with her. He stuck his fingers in her mouth, just like he does with Donuts, I mean Jonas, at home. (We call him Donuts because he is rolly-polley.)

Ah, a scenic view of the great beach we were at.
Eeeew! Pruny feet! Evan's all shriveled up like a little raisin.

Here is a video of Jonas and Evan playing yesterday. Its a little long but worth it. Evan's new trick it to try and crawl underneath the dog. It drives Jonas nuts.

On Wednesday night we went to the Demolition Derby at the Goodhue County Fair. It was a fun time - our pal Derek was in the Derby and came home with Second Place! Way to go, Derek! Yesterday we visited the American Queen paddle boat at the levee. We ate fish fry (because Kelby had never heard of one before) and then went for a ride on my parent's boat. We finished the night off with a backyard bonfire (also a first for Kelby.) I think Kelby might have been a little surprised at how "country" we are up here compared to California. It was great fun having him here and we are sad to see him leave today. :(

A four-truck pile-up. Choo-choo!
Here is Derek, showing off his new trophy. He has a matching one at home, I hear. I think he's trying to collect the whole set. ;)

A short video of the beginning of the derby - go Derek!

The American Queen riverboat.

A quick family photo-op by the "paddles. Not quite sure what Evan was yelling at...

This week has been fun. I (Emily) took vacation this week because my little (6'2") brother, Kelby, is here visiting. We are trying to pack the week full of "Minnesota fun." Luckily for him, the County Fair is going on this week. He has seen more cows and cornfields this week than he's seen his entire lifetime... Yesterday we visited the Science Musem for the Star Wars exhibit, went to the Omni Theater, and saw the Johnny Holms band at the Goodhue County Fair. It was a fun day.

Playing in the Elmo sprinkler (Thanks Justin, Katie and Noah.) Evan loves it! Here he is attempting to get a drink.
I want that camera, mom.
And, of course, we have some puppy and kittie pictures:
Jonas was trying to take a nap and it was too bright- so he covered his face up!

Rico was in Baxter's "spot," so Baxter decided he would lay on top of him.

Kelby and the Gravity Well at the Science Museum.

Luckily, Darth was available for a photo op.
